March 2012 PTO Meeting Minutes

Welcome:  The meeting was called to order by Michelle McFall at 9:35 a.m.


Attendance:  Five PTO Members attended the meeting.  The following Executive Board Members were present:  President Michelle McFall, Vice President Wendy Lindeman, Treasurer Larry Nicolette, and Co-Secretary Debby Rhea.


Minutes:  With a motion made by Larry Nicolette and seconded by Wendy Lindeman, the Minutes from the February 8, 2012 General Membership Meeting were unanimously approved.


Treasurer’s Report: 

  • Total income for February 1st through February 29th, 2012:  $9678.24
  • Total expenses for February 1st through February 29th, 2012:  $3021.85


Committee Reports:

Science and Arts Fair:  The Annual Sloan Science and Arts Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 18th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. This highly anticipated event encourages all students to draw upon their love of science or art and participate in a school-wide show.  All student work will be viewed and celebrated during the day Wednesday when each class will have a chance to tour the school with their classroom teachers.  Additionally, during the day on Wednesday, members of the School Board, local Councils and Police Departments are invited to not only enjoy students’ work, but also comment on students’ entries and serve as judges who hand out the coveted WOW buttons and recognition awards.  Please watch for a detailed event flyer that will be sent home with students. You can also follow our weekly E-News Updates for more specific information.  If you are interested in volunteering to help set up, run or take down the event, please contact Science and Arts Fair Committee Chairperson Allison Harris at or Michelle McFall at at your earliest convenience.

Bake Sale:  There will be a Bake Sale in the cafeteria on April 18th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. during the Science and Arts Fair.  Please look for more information about contributing baked goods for this event in the near future.

Duck Race:  The tentative date for this event is May 8th.

Relay for Life:  The Relay for Life will take place beginning on May 19th at 9:00 a.m. and ending on May 20th at 9:00 a.m.  For information about becoming a Team Sloan Member, making financial contributions, or purchasing luminarias, please go to: .  For help, questions or information, please contact Tabitha Riggio, Sloan PTO Relay Chair/Captain of Team Sloan, at or 724-733-4681.

Spring Fundraiser:  The Sarris Candies and Gongaware & Parry Easter Flowers will be delivered to the school for pick up on March 30th.  Four or five volunteers are needed to assist with distribution.  Please contact Corin Young at / 724-733-7037 or Michele Monro at / 724-733-0195 if you are able to help.

Spirit Sales:  Spirit Sales will take place on Thursday and Friday, March 29th and 30th, and will feature swim bags in addition to the usual selection of items.  More information will be forthcoming.

Communications:  Sandra Linnemann will be publishing the weekly and monthly editions of the E-News and Jennifer Taylor will be maintaining the PTO website.

Funds Requests:

Sidewalk Chalk: A request for the purchase of sidewalk chalk to use during recess was made and will be filled using funds from the budget that were allotted for recess supplies.

Organizational Development Expenses:  The PTO Board would like next school year’s budget to include a $350.00 allowance for travel expenses so that Board Members can attend the annual National PTO Convention.  This request will be voted upon when the budget for the 2012-2013 school year is determined.
