Sloan PTO General Assembly Meeting Minutes

May 5, 2015 at 7:00 PM

WELCOME:  The meeting was called to order by President Jennifer Taylor at 7:09 PM.

ATTENDANCE:  In addition to PTO Members present, the meeting was also attended by President Jennifer Taylor, Secretary Debby Rhea, and Co-Secretary Megan Ciaramitaro.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT:  The final assembly for the school year will take place on Field Day, May 29th and is called Rock & Roll.  This should be a fun time for all of the kids.

TREASURER’S REPORT: The inaugural Dance-a-Thon raised around $11,000.  Thanks to the “Dance Moms Committee,” Elaine Yarabinetz,  Marlo Ayres, Cristin Gorajczyk, Kim Pekarcik, and Megan Tomley, for putting the time and effort into this huge event.  We set out to have this be the big fundraiser for this school year, and we did it!  Thanks also to Monica Bush for the Little Caesars Pizza Kit Sale, which raised $1,400.  We also thank Sandra Torres-Martinez, Ellen Fergus, and Nancy Morcos for our wonderful Spring Book Fair and Mrs. Perrott, who spent time with the students introducing them to new books and helping them make their selections. We don’t have the final numbers from Scholastic yet to know our profit, but our total Book Fair revenues (prior to expenses) for the year were just shy of $20,000.

This is the time of the year where our big spending begins, which is really the heart of why our PTO raises money.  Most of the field trips are in the works, and the money is being spent for deposits to secure locations.  Whether it is bringing the Museum or the Zoo to school, or taking the kids to PNC Park, the movies, Triple-B-Farms, or Deer Valley, something special is planned for each grade level, and our fund raising pays for this.  We also have Field Day during the last week of school (an all grade level event), and we can’t forget about the Fifth Grade Farewell party, when our fifth graders says goodbye to Sloan and prepare to move on to the Middle School.  These combined events have a budgeted expense of about $13,000.

RECENT ACTIVITIES:  A listing of recent and upcoming activities was provided by President Jennifer Taylor.  Since the last General Assembly Meeting, events that have taken place in addition to those listed in the Treasurer’s report include Spring Homeroom Parties, Spirit Sales, March Math Madness, Movie Night, and the Father-Daughter Dance.  We also held our April Voting Meeting to elect Committee Chairs and the following Board Officers:  President Kelly Thomas, Vice President Lisa Fellner, and Secretary Monica Bush.  Co-Treasurers Nancy Golembiewski and Tonee Girdis were subsequently elected by way of a voting survey.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES: Duck Race (May 6th), Mother and Son Night (May 8th), Staff Appreciation Luncheon (May 13th), Relay for Life (May 16th and 17th), Field Day (May 29th), Bus Driver Appreciation (June 1st), and Fifth Grade Farewell (June 4th).

CLOSING:  The meeting was adjourned at 8:15.

Thanks to all who have attended our PTO Meetings this school year.  We thank you for your support!
