PTO Vacancies 

Thank you to everyone who was able to come to the PTO Voting Meeting on April 4th. All went smoothly. We have the majority of Committee Chair positions filled, so all the fun things that happen within the school can continue in the tradition of the PTO's mission statement. Additionally, the seats of President and Vice President were filled.


Congratulations to Jenn Taylor and Pam Rowell! We wish you the very best next year, and hope you find the experience to be rewarding.


Between now and June 7, we need to find volunteers to fill the openings that remain. Specifically, the Treasurer's seat is vacant. If you're interested in this position, please contact Michelle Mcfall at

michellemilanmcfall@gmail.com. Although we have not yet filled the Co-Secretary positions, there are Members who would like to be considered for them. Please stay tuned for more information. Lastly, we need Chairs for the following Committees: Bus Driver Appreciation; Fall Family Fun Night; Kindergarten Orientation / Welcoming (a Co-Chair to work with Jodi Horvath); the Science & Art Fair; and

Playground Renovation Project

We have some great news to share! The final piece of Sloan's playground renovation project will be ready when our children return to school next fall. With the support and approval of our PTO Members, Sloan will be acquiring a basketball court and permanent hoop installations. It will not be a full-size court but a plot of land in front of the building where kids can play, even when the ground is too wet elsewhere on the property. The details were finalized last week during a meeting with Mr. Majewski (the district's Facilities Manager), Mr. Mossellem (teacher/administrator and fitness advocate), and PTO Vice President Wendy Lindeman who researched prices and specifications.


We're so lucky and appreciative to all Members of the PTO who participate in the fundraisers that generate money to provide our children and teachers with wonderful traditions, opportunities, and resources. Each year, we bring things like Fall Family Fun Night, the Father/Daughter Dance, the Science & Art Fair, various assemblies, and field trips to our school to enhance an already excellent curriculum and provide our children with unique and wonderful experiences. The basketball court will not only serve our student body during the school year, but also during breaks.  It will be a safe place to play and make memories. Thanks to all of you for making this possible.




Relay for Life Relay For Life
The Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event that celebrates survivorship and raises money for the American Cancer Society's research and programs. The event will take place from Saturday, May 18th at 9:00 a.m. to Sunday, May 19th at 9:00 a.m. Team members are welcome to join any time between now and Relay Week, but the last day to become a member of Team Sloan and receive a t-shirt in time for the event is Wednesday, April 10th. To join, go to the Relay website
and follow the prompts. If you would like to make a financial contribution, donations can be made online by visiting the link, or checks can be made out to the American Cancer Society and sent to school in an envelope marked "PTO-Duck Race." Science and Art Fair Science and Art Fair 

The Sloan Science & Art Fair is just a few days away! Come and see what 400

of our creative and inventive students have discovered this Friday, April 12, from 6:00-8:30. There will be delicious snacks available at the Bake Sale, and rumor has it the Frisbee playing robot from the High School Robotics Club will be making a visit to talk to all of our budding engineers about the field of robotics! Have your photo taken with Albert in our Mad Scientist Photo Booth, and vote for your favorite classroom project!


Projects are to be dropped off Wednesday, April 10th after school. Pick up is after 8:30 on the night of the fair or Saturday morning. For more information about these logistics and to read about volunteer needs, please click here.

Bake Sale

Attention, bakers and shoppers! We will be holding our final Bake Sale of the year during the Science & Art Fair on Friday, April 12 from 6-8:30. We're looking very forward to an evening of sweet treats and PTO profits and need your home-baked and store-bought goods to make it a success! Donations can be dropped off anytime during the day on April 12 on the catering rack situated in the lobby or brought in before the Science & Art Fair gets started. Please kindly label goods that contain nuts. Thank you in advance for your contributions and patronage!

Let's Get Crafty!

Sloan PTO's After School Programs invites students to join us after school to create a Mother's Day craft on Monday, April 29 from 3:45 - 4:45. The staff from The Crafty Shack will be on hand to assist students in making an "I Love Mom" mug. Projects will be glazed and fired at The Crafty Shack and returned to school for distribution to students. The cost is $9.00 and registration is due by Friday, April 12. Third Grade Garden Club Garden Spade

The Third Grade Garden Club will be meeting on Wednesday, April 24 from 3:30 -4:30 p.m. If this will be your child's first meeting, s/he will need to bring a completed Student Information Sheet which can be found here. Please have your children bring a snack and a note granting them permission to stay after school to attend the meeting, anddress them in clothes appropriate for an outdoor class if the weather permits.

Market DayMarket Day

Market day paper orders are due to school by Wednesday, April 24th. Internet orders are due by midnight on Thursday, April 25th. Pick up will be on Wednesday May 1st. between 3:30 and 4:30 in the Cafeteria. All April prices and promotions will be valid on your May 1st pick up.


April's specials include two free 10 ounce pouches of Whole Grain Sweet Pea Blend with a $40 purchase and a free 4-pack of Lemon Pepper ChicNSteakes with a $90 online purchase (using promo code:APRBONUS). Frequent buyers who have made two purchases of $40 between February and April, and who place a third order of $40 in May, will receive a free set of 3 EcoBags (Size:13"h x 12" w x 8" d, with reinforced bottom). PTO Movie Night

It's a pajama party! Dress in your favorite PJs, gather your best buds, and WRECK IT with RALPH.You bring the blankets and pillows, and we'll bring the flick and snacks.


When: Friday, April 27 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM

Where: Sloan LGI


This free event is paid for by the Sloan PTO and open to all students and their families. This is not a drop-off event.  Adults are asked to stay with each group of kids.

Duck RaceDuck Race

Our beloved Duck Race, which raises money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, will take place in early May. Students will cheer on their rubber ducks at Pearson Creek and enjoy treats afterwards. The classroom that raises the most money will be awarded a prize!Donations are being accepted now.
