PTO Vacancies

The PTO is in need of volunteers next year to chair Fall Family Fun Night, scheduled for Friday, October 11, and the Science & Art Fair, scheduled for Friday, April 25. Fall Family Fun Night is a fun kick-off event that celebrates our Sloan community and the beginning of the new school year. The Science & Art Fair is a special opportunity for our children to showcase their creativity, grasp of the scientific method, and artistic skills. Both are historically meaningful events, and we'd like for the tradition to continue. We are also looking for a volunteer to serve as Co-Chair with Jodi Horvath on the Kindergarten Welcoming and New Student Orientation Committee, as Jodi will be moving on from Sloan at the end of next school year. If you are interested in chairing any of these committees, please contact Debby Rhea at kafking@hotmail.com.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Wrap-Up

Thank You! Merci! Danke! Grazie! Xie Xie! Maholo!

There are so many ways to say thank you, but in the
Hospitality Committee, our favorite way is with food. Last Wednesday's Teacher Appreciation Luncheon was amazing thanks to contributions from so many of you. Some of the comments we heard were "I look forward to this lunch all year," "This is my favorite day of the year," and "We just appreciate you doing this so much." Check out some pics here.

We received a wealth of special dishes, some of which were donated anonymously and unexpectedly, so thank you if you weren't on our volunteer email list. The teachers enjoyed everything so much that they want recipes! If you are willing to share yours, please email it to dimieritaylor@msn.com, so they can be collected and forwarded along.

Special thanks are due to those who really got their hands dirty setting up, cleaning up, and serving. Kudos to Wendy Lindeman, Michelle McFall, Joanne McClelland, Laura Pasqualini, Annette Smiach, Sandra Torres-Martinez, Pam Rowell, Jeanine Snyder, Paige Perry, Uzma Abbasi, and Debby Rhea. Thank you also to Jamie Pirollo for the AMAZING balloon sculptures which were the ooh and ahh moment of the party and Jen Boyer for her wonderful carnival games. Lastly, a most special thanks to Co-Chair and the Queen of Theme, Jeanine Snyder. Please continue to help support her events as she and Joanne McClelland take over the Hospitality committee next year.

One final overall THANKS (for an even dozen)!

Jenn Taylor, Hospitality Chair

The NED Show Yo-yo Sales

Yesterday, our students learned wonderful lessons about never giving up, encouraging others, and doing their best during The NED Show assembly. As a reminder of these lessons, yo-yos are being sold through next Monday, May 20. To purchase a yo-yo, please complete the order form that was sent home, and send it with your child to school by the due date. Checks should be made payable to "Sloan PTO." Please note that students are under no obligation to buy yo-yos.

Children will receive their yo-yos at dismissal time a few days after receipt of their order forms. Students will be instructed to keep their yo-yos in their book bags until they reach home. Kindly remind them of this rule. When your children get home, please help them adjust their strings, and practice some tricks. An instructional paper will accompany the yo-yos.

Thank you!

Bus Driver Appreciation Day

The majority of our children travel safely to and from Sloan on a school bus most days. From the first day of school to the last, we entrust our children's safety (on the roads and inside the vehicles) to the professionals driving the buses and vans that serve our school. Not only do they provide a transportation service, but also smiling faces that help our children leave home to begin their days and comfort to parents. They are responsible for managing large groups of children in close confines and bringing our precious children back home to us at the end of the day (in all weather!). For all of these reasons and more, we have Bus Driver Appreciation Day!

This year, Bus Driver Appreciation Day will be held on Monday, June 3 during morning bus arrival. All Sloan students will participate in making cards for the bus and van drivers during Art class. We are also extending an invitation to students to help make the celebration extra special by signing up to make hand-held signs, line the sidewalk to greet the drivers as they arrive, and/or deliver treat bags to them. We also invite parents to assist in supervising our cheering kids during this time. Due to safety concerns, there will be a limit to the number of participants. Adult and/or student volunteers will need to be at Sloan at 8:15 AM. If interested, please call or text Bus Driver Appreciation Day Chair Beth McCormick at 724.961.9646 or email bethmccormick12@comcast.net with the participants' names and contact information (phone number and email address). The deadline for expressing interest is next Friday, May 24th.  ***Volunteers will be selected on a first come, first served basis.***

Thank you!
