Volunteer Clearances

It has recently come to the attention of the PTO that some volunteer clearances cannot be accounted for. While this appears to be primarily related to Level 2 Clearances, the issue may be more prevalent than that. Therefore, we're suggesting that those of you who have submitted clearances may wish to check with Sloan Secretary Felicia Dusetzina (fdusetzina@franklinregional.k12.pa.us) to be sure that they are on record in the office before your next volunteer activity - whether that will be this year or some time next school year.

Additionally, for those of you who have not yet obtained clearances, but plan to, we recommend that you make copies for your own records before submitting them to the school. We will be working with next year's Committee Chairs to formulate a system for double-checking that clearances for their volunteers are on file with administration if those volunteers have served in more than one capacity at school. We thank you for your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience.Links to the district's Volunteer Policy and Clearance Forms may be found here http://www.franklinregional.k12.pa.us/sloan/volunteerinformation.asp.

PTO Vacancies

The PTO is in need of volunteers next year to chair Fall Family Fun Night, scheduled for Friday, October 11, and the Science & Art Fair, scheduled for Friday, April 25. Fall Family Fun Night is a fun kick-off event that celebrates our Sloan community and the beginning of the new school year. The Science & Art Fair is a special opportunity for our children to showcase their creativity, grasp of the scientific method, and artistic skills. Both are historically meaningful events, and we'd like for the tradition to continue. We are also looking for a volunteer to serve as Co-Chair with Jodi Horvath on the Kindergarten Welcoming and New Student Orientation Committee, as Jodi will be moving on from Sloan at the end of next school year. If you are interested in chairing any of these committees, please contact Debby Rhea at kafking@hotmail.com.

Bus Driver Appreciation Day

The majority of our children travel safely to and from Sloan on a school bus most days. From the first day of school to the last, we entrust our children's safety (on the roads and inside the vehicles) to the professionals driving the buses and vans that serve our school. Not only do they provide a transportation service, but also smiling faces that help our children leave home to begin their days and comfort to parents. They are responsible for managing large groups of children in close confines and bringing our precious children back home to us at the end of the day (in all weather!). For all of these reasons and more, we have Bus Driver Appreciation Day!

This year, Bus Driver Appreciation Day will be held on Monday, June 3 during morning bus arrival. All Sloan students will participate in making cards for the bus and van drivers during Art class. We are also extending an invitation to students to help make the celebration extra special by signing up to make hand-held signs, line the sidewalk to greet the drivers as they arrive, and/or deliver treat bags to them. We also invite parents to assist in supervising our cheering kids during this time. Due to safety concerns, there will be a limit to the number of participants. Adult and/or student volunteers will need to be at Sloan at 8:15 AM. If interested, please call or text Bus Driver Appreciation Day Chair Beth McCormick at 724.961.9646 or email bethmccormick12@comcast.net with the participants' names and contact information (phone number and email address). The deadline for expressing interest is this Friday, May 24th.  ***Volunteers will be selected on a first come, first served basis.***

Thank you!
